GET TO KNOW MATARIKI ) HAPPY MATARIKI

MATARIKI IS NOT JUST LITTLE STARS IN THE SKY GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MATARIKI :

Every late June and early July  there are a few stars in the sky that many people might not know about well; they are not just any stars .

They are stars that celebrate the Maori new year and the remembrance of the ones who have sadly passed and also to   reflect the year passed and the year ahead of you  .

Many cultures around the world also celebrate matariki in their own way. For example Japan celebrates matariki as the 7 seven stars that represent togetherness and to spend time with family and friends .

The story of how matariki started is one of Maori most known legends and myths . The story starts with two love birds who could not be apart and their children wanted to explore but sadly couldn’t due to their parents . So all the children expected for one the god of the wind separated from their parents and that’s how New zealand was made the god the wind was angry and threw his eyes in the sky which then made matariki .

Matariki wasn’t always celebrated as the Maori and the British were fighting back then but now we celebrate it every year and enjoy spending time with friends and family and just having fun is what matariki is all about . I hope you learned something today and I hope you learn more about matariki .
